Je te parle de délicatesse moi

True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be and will not be.

Viaggio

Aeroporti.A volte anche stazioni.

Queste terre di nessuno. Amo quelli moderni, con grandi vetrate. Amo ritrovarmi sola o circondata da persone in transizione come me.

stay hungry, stay foolish

we believe in u

On Friday I will have to hold a class. We could almost say my first class, at least the first after a long time.
Of course I am a little nervous.

A colleague suggested that I bring some cookies so that the students will love me.

A friend suggested that I wear a mini-skirt.

It's nice when people believe in your potential...

sub-real

in the largest hotel I have ever been. luxus, swimming pools, fountains. armchairs everywhere, just like a huge starbucks. delicious restaurants. christmas trees. warm temperatures.

I am here floating in this nobody's land. with my life and my body.

the talk went very well. well done, magnolia! some people ask me if I'd be itnerested in a job here. but I am not. and that somehow hurts, because it's partially like giving up. but I can live with that.

Another aeroplane
Another sunny place
I’m lucky, I know
But I wanna go home
Mmmm, I’ve got to go home

PERLa di saggezza

Learning from programming languages:
Perl has two slogans.
The first is "There's more than one way to do it", commonly known as TMTOWTDI.
The second slogan is "Easy things should be easy and hard things should be possible".

a wall

I'm trying. changing numbers, running the simulation.

it's so frustrating. i do not obtain convergence and i do not have an hint of the reason why. and all the help that i get is "do you have any news?"

keep telling myself that life is not just work. luckily

guilty

I do not wanna feel guilty because I'm lucky. I worked hard for this and I still do. And I try to show how grateful I am in many different ways.

So please let me be.

thelma

those days when you cannot focus. at all.

and you sharpen all your pencils. print all the papers you are gonna read (another day of course). check the e-mails every second.

no way to gain back your concentration today.

and all you wish is to jump on a cabriolet with a friend and drive down the highway to the sea. music loud, sun shining, singing, laughing, no worries!

wanna be my louise?

may day: debugging

If your program is causing strange problems, it might be a good opportunity to lean back and think for a while.

What were the last changes that you made? (A source code revision system e.g. SVN, CVS or RCS might help.)

Reduce the optimization level of your compilation.

Chose a smaller data set. Try to build a specific test case for your problem.

Look for compiler messages and warnings. Use tools for a static program analysis.

Try a dynamic analysis with appropriate compiler options.

Reduce the number of CPUs in a parallel program, try a serial program run if possible.

Use a debugger like TotalView. Use the smallest case which shows the error.

In case of an OpenMP program, use a threadchecking tool like the Sun Thread Analyzer or the Intel ThreadChecker.

If it is an OpenMP program, try to compile without optimization, e.g. with -g -O0 -xopenmp=noopt for the Sun compilers.

In case of an MPI program, use a MPI tool or a parallel debugger like TotalView. Try another MPI implementation version and/or release.

Try an other compiler. Maybe you run into a compiler bug?

up-date

soooooooo... also here in the American mid-west I already found a couple of nice people. Some Italians, some international, no American. Here the weather is freezing, always below zero, and since yesterday it's snowing a little. At the weekend I'll hopefully go and watch an ice hockey game. I wanted to watch baseball or football, but they're not playing in this season. And I finally found the bug in my program....at least one bug :) and I'm falling...
