the resolution for thenew year was to try to shift the focus on the present, when the mind goes back to the past. well. my unconscious is playing with me.

last night I had a dream/nightmare. To tell the truth rather humiliating. I was essentially in a city of my past. implicit was that a few months (or years) ago I had already gone there and I had asked an old friend if he was okay. Basically what happened tonight was that I was walking along that street and I saw the name on the ringbell. The common friend told me that yes, he had returned, was living with his girlfriends and would get angry if he saw me there. Precisely in that moment he comes (with bleached hair ...), and he gets angry and tells me to stop tormenting him. Don't I have a life of my own? In all this I was humiliated because I was actually passing by by chance and I tried to explain clearly that I do not want to get back with him.

But the general feeling was of humiliation. And it was a very real dream.

in the largest hotel I have ever been. luxus, swimming pools, fountains. armchairs everywhere, just like a huge starbucks. delicious restaurants. christmas trees. warm temperatures.

I am here floating in this nobody's land. with my life and my body.

the talk went very well. well done, magnolia! some people ask me if I'd be itnerested in a job here. but I am not. and that somehow hurts, because it's partially like giving up. but I can live with that.

snow

this morning I left my apartment and I started my adventure in the snow, 30 to 50 centimetres of snow. Till my knees (I'm not very tall!). But the sun is shining, though one can hardly feel the warmth. It's -23°C. I probably was never in suc ha cold place. Apart from the frozen stuff department in Italian supermarkets.

When I breathe I produce some warmth in my scarf and then it freezes!

When I finally got to the offce...my adapter for laptop was not working anymore! Damn! But a good excuse to leave work and go to the bookstore at the Union. Where a blue-eyed guy sent me an amazing adapter..

And of course also today I saw a guy in shorts....

up-date

soooooooo... also here in the American mid-west I already found a couple of nice people. Some Italians, some international, no American. Here the weather is freezing, always below zero, and since yesterday it's snowing a little. At the weekend I'll hopefully go and watch an ice hockey game. I wanted to watch baseball or football, but they're not playing in this season. And I finally found the bug in my program....at least one bug :) and I'm falling...

where am I?

Another continent, another lonely office without windows (stupid architects putting the windows in the corridor!!!!!), very chilly air, sun shining, a campus, another language. Coming here I really realized what a mess my mind is. I switch among the 3 languages continuously!!!

I miss him, but I'm hopeful that we both will be patient.

Tomorrow a presentation...scary! I'm afraid always to know less than the others, to be less efficient, slower... but this trip will also help me to partially win these fears.

Now everything is clear. Yesterday I got to my hotel in Daytona Beach and my floor was crowded with young teenagers, cheerleaders. I thought "How lucky I am: my first time in the US and I can see them". This morning I went down to the beach and there were another couple of groups of cheerleaders taking photos. Then I walked to the city centre and it was crowded with little girls, teenagers and mothers....all dressed like cheerleaders, some were training and stretching.

Now I came back to the hotel and read

Kind of touristic space, but also very nice. This high technology in a green sunny area with the ocean, lots of birds and alligators :) And there was a nice video of one of the astronauts who was walking on the surface of the moon and singing a song. I heard so much about this country. Since I was a child, on TV. Happy days, Beverly Hills, The Cosbys..that's how I learnt to know this country. And then on the news... but there I didn't learn to know funny people in their everyday life. In the news I learnt to know a country that is powerful, that was bombing Iraq...And then at school they taught me that this was a good country, which had saved Europe from the Nazis....that helped Europe to restart after the Second World War. And then I happened to hear that the people there study much less than in Europe, that they are quite ignorant and naive.

Who should I believe to?

Anyway, I'll be there for the first time in January... Cool!!!
